Principles of Drama Therapy: Healing Through Action w/Armand Volkas – Live Online

This 45-Hour Drama Therapy training group will provide participants with an experience of being in a drama therapy group. A variety of drama therapy techniques will be utilized, including improvisation, acting techniques, psychodrama, Playback Theatre and other action methods. The experiential portion of the training will focus on the application of drama therapy as a powerful tool in working with individuals, couples and groups. The didactic portion of the training will offer a theoretical basis and rationale for the use of drama therapy in multiple clinical situations. This training fulfills the Principles of Drama Therapy requirement for The North American Drama Therapy Association Alternate Training Program.

Intermediate Healing Historical Trauma through Drama Therapy 15-Week Training

Theatre as a Therapeutic Act: Transform Your Life through Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance

Participants will explore formative moments in their lives and identify self-limiting beliefs transmitted by family, society and personal traumas. Group and individual therapy sessions will include an engagement with memories, images and emotions. Through the creation of your Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance (ATP) you will begin to embody new life-affirming narratives. The journey will culminate in a "rite of passage" performance presented to a group of your invited witnesses.

Healing Historical Trauma through Drama Therapy: A 13-Week Training

REGISTRATION CLOSED - This 13-week training will introduce peacebuilding and conflict transformation approaches to healing generational, historical and ancestral trauma through drama therapy. The course will involve experiential learning and techniques culled from drama therapy, psychodrama, sociodrama, Playback Theatre, expressive arts therapy, autobiographical therapeutic performance and Transactional Analysis. The experiential portion of the training will focus on the application of Healing the Wounds of History as a tool in working with individuals, groups and transforming societies. The didactic portion of the training will offer readings and a theoretical basis and rationale for the use of Healing the Wounds of History approaches in working through personal and collective trauma in multiple cultural and clinical contexts.

Love Stories: A 1-Day Playback Theatre Workshop

A 1-Day online Playback Theatre workshop on the theme of Love in all its variety, textures, and complexity. Participants will be invited to share their personal stories of love in all its variety, textures, and complexity: a first love, a best friend, a beloved pet, a long-lasting love, a cherished grandparent. Workshop participants will learn acting and improv skills that will instantly transform these stories into improvised theater pieces and provide a safe and playful space for our emotions, reflections and responses.

Facing Whiteness: A 1-Day Drama Therapy Workshop

In this one day workshop for white people, we will explore the traumatic legacy of American whiteness through experiential means in non-shaming space. Improvisation, psychodrama, ritual and Playback Theatre will be used to begin to unearth the traumas associated with systemic racism and its impact on our identities and our psyches. This workshop is committed to unburdening the BIPOC community by helping participants to take responsibility for educating themselves about systemic racism and unpacking their emotional responses to it.

Psyche’s Cabaret: A 12 Week Jungian-Based Drama Therapy Group [GROUP FULL ~ WAITLIST AVAILABLE]

This 12-week online Drama Therapy group uses the performance genres of cabaret — storytelling, singing, character monologues, choreography, poetry or puppetry — to break out of old identities and create new ways of being in the world. Using the performing arts for personal development allows for us to discover new perspectives on ourselves, our lives and our creative potentials. The workshop culminates in the presentation of a therapeutic cabaret act for your invited group of trustworthy witnesses.

Healing the Wounds of Patriarchy: A 7-Week Drama Therapy Group for Men

Patriarchy is a social system based on male dominance. It is a hierarchy that elevates some men over other men, and all men over women. These traumas not only shape our ways of being in the world, but perpetuate themselves across generations, and disconnect us from our full humanity. In this 7-week therapy group, we will use embodied action methods including drama therapy, psychodrama and theater improvisation to heal the personal and collective traumas engendered by patriarchy. Open to all male-identified participants. No theater experience required!
