Join us for this online Intro to Expressive Arts Therapy Workshop
for Mental Health Professionals!


This online 5-hour workshop is designed specifically for mental health professionals to explore and expand their clinical toolbox. We will provide a foundational overview of the field of Expressive Arts Therapy and give you a range of creative tools you can utilize with your clients. In this workshop, we will use visual arts, writing, music, movement and role playing to explore the arts as therapeutic tools. This workshop will include both lecture and process-oriented experientials intended to provide a first-hand experience of the expressive arts. We invite you to join us and get an experience of how you can integrate the arts expressive arts into your practice!

No previous artistic experience is necessary.

What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

An approach to counseling and group work that utilizes visual art, movement, music, writing, drama, and other forms of creative expression as a way to deepen self-exploration and understanding. This therapeutic approach places emphasis on the creative process rather than the product.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Explore the benefits of integrating an expressive arts approach into your practice
  • Expand your clinical toolbox with creative evidence-based interventions
  • Learn how to adapt the expressive arts to an online format
  • Rekindle your creativity, spontaneity, and resourcefulness as a clinician

About the Facilitator:

Teresa Trout, MA is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at the Living Arts Counseling Center with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy. She has a B.A. in Visual Arts from UC San Diego and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies.  Teresa has a grounded, compassionate, playful, and creative personality as well as an abundant therapeutic toolbox to support others on their healing journey. She believes that healing happens when you can feel truly heard and seen, when you are able to share your stories, explore your struggles, and be met with love, compassion, and unconditional positive regard.

As an Expressive Arts Therapist, she likes to think outside the box and utilize the creative arts for healing. Teresa has worked in the fields of mental health and the arts for over 10 years serving a diverse range of youth and adults. As a psychotherapist and expressive arts therapist, she works with people of all backgrounds and lived experiences. She offers affirmative, knowledgeable, and trauma-informed services for individuals who are part of the LGBTQ+, BDSM/Kink, and Non-Traditional Relationship communities.
